LFD Swearing In/Promotions 08/27/14 - Lexington Fire Fighters
LFD Promotions/Swearing in. At 1600 hours on August 27th, 2014 Lexington FD had a swearing in ceremony. Lieutenant Don Chisolm was promoted to the rank of Captain, Firefighter Guy Monaco was promoted to Lieutenant, and Firefighter Chris Abisla was sworn into the department.
Brother Matt Malcomson 08/27/14 - Canton Professional Firefighters Association
Brother Matt Malcomson became very ill over the weekend. He was admitted to Mercy Hospital for a few days. While there, they were unable to identify the illness. After a few days of iv antibiotics they moved him to the ICU. Yesterday he was transferred to the Cleveland Clinic. Today they diagnosed him with Citro Bacteria.

Line of Duty Death 08/27/14 - IAFF 876
It is with great sadness that Local 876 has experienced a Line of Duty Death. Mark Normington pass away after a courageous battle with Cancer on Sunday, August 10, 2014. He was 58 years old. Mark began his service with Spokane Valley Fire Department on June 16, 1986 and retired on June 16, 2012.

AUGUST 27, 2014: With emergency response vehicles, firefighters in full regalia and smoke billowing from a side door of the Packard Proving Grounds repair garage Aug. 20, passers-by might have been alarmed.
E-Board Meeting 08/27/14 - Professional Fire Fighters Of Alabama
There will be a PFFA E Board meeting on September 10th beginning at 1:00 PM. Lunch will be provided and will begin around 12:00. It is important for each local to have a representative in attendance if possible. Members are also welcome to attend.
The meeting will be held at the Birmingham Fire Fighters Association Local Hall, 184 Oxmoor Court. We look forward to seeing you on the 10th.
CHANGE to Local 1826 Bi-Monthly Meeting location 08/27/14 - IAFF 1826
To all Local 1826 Members, We have been informed that the SWFL International Airport Training Center, will not be available for our Bi-Monthly meeting. The meeting will be held at the City of Fort Myers Station #5, 9700 Treeline Ave, Fort Myers. Meeting starts at 6:30 pm
The Special Dues Assessment vote will also be finalized at this meeting, voting will be from 6:30-7:30.

The start of the poker run on Friday will be at Oak Plaza located at Garland (hwy 112) and North. We will be going north to Eureka Springs and back around to end at the Official Camp Ground of Bikes Blues and BBQ. CPF-sponsored legislation, SB 1019 (Leno), exposes the use of flame retardant chemicals in uphostered furniture that produce cancer-causing agents when they burn, putting firefighters and the public at risk.
Dearborn/Melvindale Fire Department merger still going strong after first year 08/25/14 - Paul Hufnagel
Melvindale officials are projecting a $500,000 savings in the first year. The actual savings total was not available at press time. The city will have additional staffing and rigs at its station, which the city is renting to Dearborn for $1 a year, and additional firefighters will be available. At least 17 firefighters from three stations are dispatched to every fire.
Paramedic license rule up for debate in Des Plaines 08/25/14 - Paul Hufnagel
As part of a continuing debate, two Des Plaines aldermen are urging the city's board of fire and police commissioners to reconsider a requirement that mandates all prospective firefighter new hires have a paramedic license to apply for the job.
Fire at 262 Main Street 08/25/14 - IAFF Local 892
At 12:50 August 24th, Truck 1, Squad A, Engine 3, Engine 2 and the Battalion were dispatched to the Salvation Army building downtown for a reported structure fire. Heavy smoke was encountered upon entry and SqA pulled their crosslay. The fire was discovered towards the back of the first floor and was quickly knocked down.

As was clearly demonstrated by the victory of mayor Marty Walsh in Boston elections matter!! Because elections matter and our livelihood is so closely connected to the political process we (Local 1009) will need to be active in the election cycle. We have traditionally supported the endorsed candidates of the PFFM for state elective office.

$13,600 for MDA from L892 08/22/14 - IAFF Local 892
Norwich Local 892 was able to raise $13,600 for MDA during our annual fill-the-boot drive. The citizens and commuters of Norwich were very generous and we thank them for their help.
28 Squire St 08/22/14 - New London Fire Fighters
At 3:17 am on 8/22/14 a neighbor called in a smoke detector sounding at 28 Squire St. When units arrived, tenants had not yet evacuated the structure. Fire was showing in a second floor window at the rear of the house. Forcible entry was made and a search for occupants found four adults that were still sleeping and unaware of the fire or alarm.
Recovery Operations 8/21/14 08/22/14 - New London Fire Fighters
New London Firefighters assisted by numerous agencies and a good Samaritans personal boat searched for the body of a male who had jumped off the Southbound side of the Gold Star Bridge. State Police divers recovered the body after recovery dogs and side scan sonar(used by the State Police boat and Mystics Fire boat) came up with hits in the same area.

House Fire Claims Life In Sorrento 08/22/14 - IAFF Local 3990
Lake County Firefighters responded to a house fire Wednesday afternoon off Vine Street in Sorrento. The first arriving firefighters arrived in just minutes but flames and smoke were already pouring out of the house bedroom window and roof. Neighbors called the fire in when they discovered the blaze.
